Karst research

Our research focuses on the assessment of water resources in karst regions at various scales. I develop new modeling and parameter estimation procedures for more reliable karst water management under current and potential future conditions.

Our karst research topics cover
  • Karst Water Resources in a Changing World
  • Process-oriented karst modeling at cave and aquifer scale
  • Large-scale karst recharge estimation and prediction
  • Model evaluation and calibration with hydrochemical information
  • Monitoring and simulation of karstic recharge and evapotranspiration
  • Development of global open-access data sets of karstic discharge observations
  • Simulation approaches to improve paleoclimate reconstruction by speleothems

Beyond the karst

Our research topics beyond the karst cover
  • Discussion and application of new approaches to simulate subsurface stormflow at the catchment scale
  • Simulation of wetland evapotranspiration using groundwater and stable water isotope observations
  • Large-scale comparative hydrology to assess streamflow sensitivity to water storage change
  • Hydrological process representation in Earth System Models
  • Transit times in the critical zone
